About Lisa

Lisa is the incumbent St. Petersburg City Councilmember in District 7. She was born in St. Petersburg and attended Boca Ciega High School.  After graduation, she began her record of service by joining the Army.  Lisa served overseas for two years before returning to her home in St Pete to raise her family.

In 2008, Lisa’s 21-year-old son Cabretti Wheeler and his friend Kyle Ellis were murdered. When the case stalled, Lisa went into her neighborhood to combat the “no snitching” code of silence crippling law enforcement in her community.  People started talking, the police caught Cabretti’s killer, and he was given three consecutive life sentences. Then-United States Attorney General Eric Holder awarded Lisa with the Department of Justice’s Courage Award for her work in 2013, and in 2017 she appeared on “Deadline: Crime with Tamron Hall” to discuss how she found her son’s killer.

After she solved her son’s murder, Lisa remained active in the community. She became the President of her Neighborhood Association and the Chair of the Council of Neighborhood Association’s Public Safety Committee. Lisa then went on to become the first black President of the Council of Neighborhood Associations in St. Petersburg.

In 2015, Lisa was elected to her first term on the St. Petersburg City Council for District 7, where she has continued to fight for our families and our community.
