ST. PETERSBURG – St. Petersburg City Council Member Lisa Wheeler-Bowman announced the endorsements of Mayor Rick Kriseman and Council Members Charlie Gerdes, Brandi Gabbard, Ed Montanari, Darden Rice, Gina Driscoll, and Amy Foster.

“I’m proud to endorse Councilwoman Wheeler-Bowman because she has played an instrumental role in moving our city forward,” Kriseman said. “Her leadership on affordable housing, public safety, and supporting small business demonstrates her dedication to making St. Petersburg a city that works for everyone. Lisa is a true public servant, and I look forward to continuing our work together.”

Rice said, “Lisa is a thoughtful leader who always puts the people of St. Petersburg first. She’s never afraid to stand up for what’s right and advocates fiercely for policies that improve residents’ daily lives. I join her many supporters, volunteers, and colleagues in endorsing her candidacy so she can continue to serve our city as councilwoman.”

Wheeler-Bowman said, “I’m honored to have the support of Mayor Kriseman and my colleagues on city council. I’m proud of the work we’ve done together, especially on the issues that impact our most vulnerable residents, and I want to continue that work for another four years.”

Wheeler-Bowman was first elected to the District 7 seat on the St. Petersburg City Council in 2015 and took office in 2016. She served as the council vice chair in 2017 and council chair in 2018.

The St. Petersburg City Council primary is Aug. 27. Under the city’s charter, council member races in the primary are voted on by single-member district.

That means that, in the primary, only voters living in Districts 1, 3, 5 and 7 may vote in their respective council district races. For each Council Member contest, the names of the two candidates receiving the most votes will be placed on the Nov. 5 municipal general election ballot, which is voted on by all St. Petersburg residents.

The last day to register to vote in the St. Petersburg primary is July 29.
